Meet Dr. Sherry Tsai Welcome to our website. Many of our new and existing patients have asked me about my dental schooling and my post-graduate work in sleep apnea, dental implants, neuromuscular TMJ & cosmetic dentistry. So, I thought I’d share a bit about my training, my team and our approach to dentistry. I am an honors graduate of the University of Pacific School of Dentistry and have been practicing for over 25 years in the Bay Area. I am a graduate of the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI). LVI is the leader in cosmetic and neuromuscular dentistry techniques, smile design and TMJ and sleep apnea treatments. I found LVI to be the ideal institute to pursue my postgraduate specialties in Cosmetic, TMJ and Apnea Dentistry as they uphold the highest levels of quality, esthetics and professionalism. My team and I pride ourselves in providing dentistry above and beyond the restrictions that common dental insurance imposes on quality and esthetics. I work with only the best dental laboratories in the United States and use only the highest quality materials for our treatments. We also take pride in the fact that we offer the latest technologies available. A great example is our use of digital x-rays and our in-house CT 3D Digital Scanner. We use these technologies to decrease your radiation exposure by more than 80%, while enabling you to view your images in high resolution on the computer next to your chair; thus involving you in the diagnostic process. During your visit, be sure to ask us about other technologies such as intra-oral cameras, computer-simulated Smile Design, and CT Dental Implant planning.

My Three-Phase Oral Health Philosophy
The Restorative Dentistry phase is the evaluation and repair of your teeth. The goal is to bring your teeth back to the shape and condition they once were. To accomplish this, we replace broken or leaking fillings, restore decay with crowns and bridges, replace missing or failing teeth with dental implants, fitting partials and full dentures, and make minor adjustments to your bite alignment. When necessary, gum disease is treated, or root canal therapy recommended. It is our belief that you can keep your smile for life.
The Preventive Dentistry phase is our goal for every patient. It involves the daily care of your teeth, good nutrition, and periodic check-ups and cleanings that are the foundations of excellent dental health. Preventive dentistry may not be where we start with every patient, but it's our goal.
The Cosmetic Dentistry phase takes advantage of the latest materials and techniques that make a beautiful smile accessible to everyone. Because our restorative and preventive programs are successful, we have the luxury of considering cosmetic treatment for gaps, chips, discolored and crooked teeth or otherwise less-than-perfect smiles. Cosmetics range from tooth-colored fillings to full smile makeovers. Be sure to ask for our free Smile-Simulation photo so you can see what your results will look like.
Dental Implants- Many of our patients are happy to hear that they don't have to see a specialist to have dental implants placed. This includes dental implants to replace lost or broken teeth, mini dental implants to hold dentures in place, and implant-retained bridges. Most of these implants can be placed in just a couple of visits and, best of all, most dental insurance plans cover some of the dental implant costs. We also have our own in-house CT Scanner so there is no need to run from lab to lab for dental implant planning and evaluation.
TMJ or TMD is very common in our society and treatments are continually improving. My neuromuscular dentistry background allows me to take a more conservative and natural approach to TMJ pain, jaw popping, joint pain, and ear pain. Using a muscle relaxing and repositioning method that has been in use for more than 25 years, I find a more natural position for your jaw during the biting motion and sleeping position. I then build an TMJ orthotic for you to wear 23 hours per day and seven days per week until your discomfort is resolved or becomes tolerable. This more natural position helps your jaw joint and associated muscle groups function more naturally and smoothly. We have successfully treated the full spectrum of TMJ related issues such as jaw pain, ear pain, neck pain, and even shoulder muscle spasms.
Sleep Apnea and snoring are also very common diagnoses in our society and treatment alternatives have improved greatly in the 10 years. Anyone who has been diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea, or OSA, will likely have tried or been suggested to try a CPAP machine. CPAP machines are positive-pressure masks that you wear while sleeping. Many of our patients find these CPAP masks uncomfortable and are unable to tolerate them. For CPAP intolerant patients, or patients just looking for an alternative way of treating their snoring and sleep apnea, we provide a Sleep Apnea Oral Appliance or MAD Mouth Guard. This sleep apnea mouth guard gently holds your bottom jaw while you are sleeping. Preventing your jaw from falling back towards your throat and thus keeping your upper airways open and allowing you to breathe easily. Our sleep apnea mouthguards can effectively treat mild and moderate sleep apnea. You can read more about our Sleep Apnea Mouth guards here.
